Today we learned of the passing of our next door neighbor and very good friend Toni Amick. Toni had spent all her life in Old Northeast, St. Petersburg. After her beloved husband Phil died, she did move to another part of St. Pete to be near her son. Even that short distance and short period away did not set well with her. She quickly left the "homeless shelter", as she called it, and moved back to Old Northeast.
It was our great fortune to meet her when she moved in next door to us. She was just a wonderful person and everyone loved her dearly. Her interests ranged from the local art museum, where she was a docent,to NASCAR. She was thrilled when her neighbor Rich Luker, who at the time was doing consulting to Petty Motorsports, brought her autographed items from Richard. I was there when he presented them to her and watching her face light up was a pure joy to watch.
Her tales of growing up in St. Pete and all the history that she was a part of were of great interest to us.
She and her pugs, Emit, Princes and Daphne greeted me every morning on their walk. Their barking and her saying "hush" will live in my memory and will be missed forever.
She was one of those gracious women that you meet occasionally in life, if you are lucky, and will live in your memories forever.

Nice. Sad. I thought she was all that you say- a real delight in the neighborhood- and we'll miss her so much. Emmett? Not so much, but Toni a great deal. Spunky and funny and full of life far longer than most.
